WFS secures cargo handling license at Oslo Airport

Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has been awarded a cargo handling license at Oslo Airport, expanding parent company SATS' global network to Norway for the first time. Currently, Menzies and Scan GSE carry out ground handling operations at Oslo Airport. Avinor, which operates 43 airports in Norway - including Oslo, said expanding Oslo Airport's choice of cargo handling providers will increase capacity and competition for airlines, freight forwarders, and cargo owners and reinforce the airport's position as Northern Europe's largest full freighter hub. "This is very good news for Oslo Airport and the cargo community. We have never previously had three cargo handlers at the airport, and a third operator will increase capacity, and provide an even better offering for airlines, freight forwarders and cargo owners," said Eva Beate Lande, head of cargo at Avinor. The move comes as Oslo Airport is experiencing rising demand for cargo services, she added. "A new operator is an important milestone in our cargo strategy and will help strengthen the resilience of the cargo supply chain and facilitate further growth in both Norwegian and international air freight. "It highlights Oslo Airport's current position as an important air freight hub, while laying a solid foundation for the further development of Cargo West." For WFS, this contract further extends its operating network. WFS and SATS currently provide cargo handling at over 225 stations in 27 countries, covering trade routes responsible for more than 50% of global air cargo volume. WFS expects to play a prominent role in the next phase of Oslo Airport's growth. The airport serves as a key departure point for time-critical and perishable cargo, such as Norwegian seafood, and is experiencing growing demand for cargo services. John Batten, chief executive, Gateway Services Europe, Middle East, and Africa at WFS, said: "We thank Avinor for this significant opportunity to expand the WFS and SATS network in Norway and, most importantly, to be able to support the continued cargo growth of Oslo Airport and its customers. "Norway is an exciting market for air cargo. We look forward to working with Avinor and the airport community to develop a competitive and customer-focussed service offering, which will be linked to SATS' global air cargo network across 27 countries."

Kuehne + Nagel - Apex chip smuggling investigation hits the wires

"The US government is investigating [Kuehne + Nagel's] Apex Logistics for its suspected role in smuggling Nvidia Corp. AI chips to China" - Bloomberg, 27 August 2026. (Timing sucks?) If you recall, Lawrence Lim wrote for Premium about Kuehne + Nagel's (K+N) 'deliberate path' to an Apex listing last month. When asked about Premium's exclusive (followed by Bloomberg coverage two days later), during the Q&A session of the call with management on Q2 26 numbers, CFO Markus Blanka-Graff replied to Barclays analyst Marco ...

ILT fines DHL, El Al, and Turkish Airlines over aircraft noise at night

DHL, El Al, and Turkish Airlines have been issued with financial penalties over night flights involving noisy aircraft at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport. The Aviation Authority of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT-Aviation Authority) in the Netherlands imposed the penalties in the last 10 months, said a press release issued by the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate on 26 August. The airlines did not comply with the rules at Schiphol Airport to limit noise, which restrict the number of flights at night, between the hours of 11pm and 7am, and include a ban on certain older freighters from operating during these hours. DHL, El Al, and Turkish Airlines did not abide by the rules, despite a prior warning. "In the first half of the operating year (1 November 2025 to 1 June 2026), the aviation authority of the Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT-Aviation Authority) found that three airlines violated this prohibition, despite a prior warning. These are DHL, El Al, and Turkish Airlines. For this, these airlines have been issued a Penalty Payment Order (LOD)," said the Inspectorate. In the event of future infractions, the airlines will be required to pay €17,000 per violation, up to a maximum of €170,000. The restrictions on night flights and noisy aircraft are intended to limit nighttime noise disturbance for residents living near Schiphol. From 1 November 2025, the Dutch government introduced a limit of 478,000 annual aircraft movements, including a maximum of 27,000 night movements. But in March this year, the Dutch Council of State annulled the amended Airport Traffic Decree (LVB) that had imposed the annual flight cap. Since 1 November 2025, an aircraft may not take off from or land at Schiphol between 23:00 and 07:00 if it is a Chapter 3, 4 or 14 aircraft with a cumulative noise margin below -13 EPNdB. Aircraft primarily affected include versions of older cargo and passenger aircraft such as the Boeing B737-800, B737-900, or B747-400 and the Airbus A320, A321, or A330-200.
